eLearning Tools
XIA has made a substantial investment in embedding our methodology into course
authoring and management technology. Here is a brief
outline of our tools:
eLearning Authoring Tools
Our course authoring tools allow us to offer a richer, more interactive learning
experience while reducing the overall development time and cost. Some of the
features include:
- Reuse of existing materials (e.g. Word or Power Point)
- Automatic generation of navigation (e.g. forward, back, menus)
- Automatic generation of table of contents and index
- Easily add multimedia files (e.g. Flash, javascript, html, audio or video)
- Easily change output appearance using global imagery and style sheets
- Easily "style" a wide range of quizzes (e.g. true-false, multiple
choice, match list, etc)
- Easily "style" drag-and-drop or point-and-click interactions
and rollovers
- Easily "style" server-marked quizzes for student grading and
certification
- Easily "style" client-marked quizzes for student self-evaluation
- Output courses in XHTML, HTML HELP, and SCORM 1.2 Compliant formats
- Track changes for reviewing the materials
eLearning Management Tools
Our learning management system provides interfaces for students, instructors
and administrators. The system's modular design allows us to add new software
components (e.g. new discussion board or chat software) easily, extend the system
using open software technologies and avoid being locked into a system. The interfaces
include:
eCommerce Storefront Interface
The eCommerce interface allows students to shop online. Using the interface,
potential students can learn about potential course offerings then order and
pay for a course. The interface automatically registers the student in the course
and supports a variety of different purchasing options (e.g. credit card, cheque).
The interface can be 're-skinned' to take on any appearance.

Administrator Interface
Using the administrator interface, administrators manage courses, classes,
students, instructors, administrators and other assorted user profiles.
They can also obtain reports on course enrollments and student completion
status. Course registrations can be handled manually or automatically
depending upon how the system is configured.
Instructor Interface
Using the instructor interface, instructors are able to manage every
aspect of class setup and class delivery. They are able to create the
course calendar, view student information, view student assignment submission,
download assignments from the system, upload marked assignments to the
system, grade assignments, email the class as a group or individual,
section the class into teams for group assignments, post messages to
the discussion board, post instructor comments, copy class structures
to new classes and access the course materials.
Student Interface
Using the student interface, students can access course materials,
send messages to the instructor, view their classmates, submit and upload
assignments, view their course calendar to see when assignments are
due or when chats are scheduled, visit the class chat room, or visit
the class discussion board.
