Lately, I hear a lot of very loud demands for personal freedom and certain rights.
Our fundamental human rights are universally agreed upon.
So we don’t like it when those rights are infringed upon.
We should also consider the consequences of our actions on others, not just ourselves.
But in all the commotion today, very little, if anything, is mentioned about the duties that accompany our basic human rights.
Personal rights and responsibilities are the two sides of the freedom coin.
On one side, you have the individual’s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
On the other side, each of us has the individual duty to respect the rights of others.
It is a grave mistake and sad day for freedom to assume that just because a man has some fundamental rights, he is also free from all responsibilities.
So it is important to remember that our rights come with responsibilities.
Just as we have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we also have the responsibility to respect the rights of others.
When we fail to do our duty, we not only violate the rights of others but also undermine our own rights and freedom suffers.
Let’s be mindful of our rights and corresponding duties.
We can work together to create a society where everyone can prosper.
